Farouk is a young fire genasi of average height with jet-black hair. His skin, however is rare among even fire genasi; it’s ashen gray and cracked as the sun-baked earth of Zakhara, often mistaken for scars. These perhaps are not the most striking of his features, as Farouk’s eyes betray his fire elemental heritage; red as lava when he’s under diress but darkening at other times. Such an appearance has caused Farouk to wear his hair long, or to cover himself with scarves and hoods; much unlike the stereotypical fire genasi who are boisterous and proud. You never know who is watching…
With no memory of his parentage or origin, Farouk’s earliest memories are of the ‘family’ he has grown to acknowledge as the only ones who could ever care for one such as him. Outside his adopted home, he has known little else other than mistrust, ridicule and the negative undertones of society as his appearance often causes others to judge him long before he has a chance to show his true colour. Being poor and orphaned grates on him when he sees such opulence in the world around him, and he longs to reward those who have shown themselves to be trustworthy, honest and good with such adornments and comforts, even if the Grand Caliph is secretly hoarding riches beyond measure away from the starving poor…
Feeling a little insecure next to his ‘brothers and sisters’ who have come into their own with magiks and steel, Farouq has just recently begun to display talents of a magical nature as well. He is tight-lipped about how or why, and seems to be just figuring them out himself. One thing is for certain, however… he now revels in striking a frosty chill down the spine of his family as a joke; perhaps a hint of this newly-discovered aptitude…
Features & Habits
Until very recently, Faruq was living at Auntie’s house with his brothers and sisters.
Since Uncle Jojo did not return however, things have all changed…
Friends & Allies
On the subject of parentage and heritage, Farouk feels a strong distaste for his fire genasi kind. The irresponsible nature of the efreet in their unions with humans, the power-hungry pacts made in a fierce clamouring battle against the marid, all have soured Farouk and cause him to think little of the impestuous race. This comes across as self-loathing to an extent, because he feels forgotten, discarded and lost without any knowledge of where he came from or how he came to be. Surely it is part of some grand plan he’s not yet aware of. But he will find out…
Positive bond with: Chaka (looks up to her as big sister; she’s always been kind to him)
Negative bond with: Zephyr (because Faruq thinks of most Genasi as the lost race; wrestling for identity)
Short & Long Term Goals
Farouk’s only real comfort in life has been his ‘family’ and how they have grown up together. With such negativity in the world around them, Farouk has often found his center to be that he belongs to a group, even if it is an eclectic and strange assembly. With Uncle Jojo’s sacrifice has come an incredible sense of responsibility to finally step up and repay the kindness he has been shown, and to right the wrongs done them all, one at a time, if necessary.
