This enigmatic figure entered the tales of the Scourge of the Underdark while the group was planning the downfall of the Aboleth’s dreaded Tower of Domination. He first met Brother Griften, who then summoned his comrades. While they presumed him to be a villain at first, since he mentioned that the shadow dragon they had slain, Fandruusch, was his ally, he apparently did not hold this against them. Instead, he sealed off a portion of Great Shaboath with a veil of nondetection for them to use as a hideout.
The Shadow-Mage was next encountered in the Free City of Greyhawk at the guild of wizardry, where he is apparently a member. He informed Tanamier of another Gifted One of Parthen who was hiding out in the Hornwood, which led to the involvement of the Scourge in freeing the so-called “Lost Land” of Geoff.
Finally, he made a belated appearance at the end of Tempus‘ wedding to Tamarina, providing them each with a locket that magically endowed them with an enhanced empathy for each other.
The Shadow-Mage looks somewhat boyish, with light blond hair and very fair features. His robes always blend perfectly into whatever shadow he is standing against, providing the illusion that one is speaking to a pair of disembodied hands and floating head. He is polite, witty, and so far, helpful. Still, the heroes of the Ministry of the Blade are suspicious of him.
In addition to his mastery over shadow-magic, it is suspected that the Shadow-Mage is a highly adept psionicist as well. Brother Griften attempted to open his mind upon their first meeting and encountered mental barriers such that he has never known before. It may be that the Shadow-Mage is not of this world… or plane.
