A Difference of Opinion

  • it was obvious that he was held in low esteem by the Lich Baroness

Michael asks Puki and Nildaru if they are able to sense a way out. She also asks Legion if he can do the same since he’s from another dimension, lived a long time, and is evil like this place

Idris analyses the mask to determine if it has been used in the past (other than by us) trying to determine whether it is a one use item or does it only transport someone one-way or to one location? Perhaps it’s possible to recharge the mask… as it is related to the lich king, perhaps we would have to sacrifice recoveries or hit points?

DICE USE – a 6 with The Three, knowing the magically inclined nature of the Blue, is it enough to determine this or would it require someone more… something more?

Idris spends some time examining the mask. Now, because Idris‘ magic is personal, not as a result of study, he has to get… involved… in the examination. When he does, he feels the mask starting to feed upon him… Very similar to Idris‘ Sigil of Blood…

Legion, each day better-attuned to the magic of this world, feels as though Idris‘ arcane senses might be on to something. Does Legion think that he could ‘fuel’ the mask’s appetite with the life force of an… unwilling being? This could be a powerful motivational tool…

Michael offers herself and will use her 6 with The Priestess in order to protect her spirit from being harmed in the process. Michael turns to Legion and asks why we shouldn’t leave you here? Garados seems heartened that his soul will not be sacrificed.

Legion pauses for a moment and then asks, “What bothers you, Michael?”

Michael steps into Legions personal space and looks into his eyes. You seem quite comfortable in sacrificing a soul to something evil like a the cultists we seek to destroy

Legion seems to take no offense to Michael‘s question or her stance , standing perfectly still. Even in this place, the muted, wavering lights of the unholy chamber reflected brightly off her armor. “Comfortable? Yes, quite. Does that surprise you? We have not known each other long, you and I, and I am still a stranger to this place.” Legion pauses for a moment, looking around him at the faces of those of his allies who notice the exchange. “But long ago, in a different place, I was very much like this one…” Legion points at Garados. “Yes, I imagine much like him though even my recollection to those days so long ago is sometimes strained. If he is who I was… yes… long ago, then his soul is black like the darkness beyond these lights.”

Michael asks, “to clarify, you presently are comfortable with using another soul to sacrifice to evil?”

“If one must be used to fuel our escape from this place, I would much prefer to use a dark soul than one such as yours. Is that wrong?” For the briefest of moments, Legion looks unsure of himself, and then the look is gone.

“ok, and what about the sacrificing to evil part? You’re presently ok with this?”

Legion closes his eyes for a moment and nods slightly, as if Michael‘s question answered his. “Yes, I think I understand what you are asking, now. Your concern is that my suggestion robs him of his free will to say no? Perhaps. But have we not robbed many others of their lives to preserve our own?”

Legion moves to sit and rest on a nearby stone ledge; clearly hurting from the combat. “I have long been on a journey to right past wrongs, and even after all these many years, I still have much to learn, it seems.”

“I was hoping you’d ask about the death of the wicked. Avenging is not the same as sacrificing a soul to evil. Avenging sets the soul free, but sacrificing the soul to feed evil is something else. Evil people don’t usually think what they are doing is wrong. Do you understand my inquiries?”

Legion nods and answers plainly, “I understand them, Michael. Perhaps I spoke hastily; we know little more than when we left Eldolan.” Legion‘s brow furrows and he looks again at Garados. “I will defer then to the wisdom of my friends.” Legion steps back, his gaze turning to their surroundings again; hoping for an epiphany to arrive.
