A native of the demiplane Ravenloft, Mandraka escaped to Oerth when some of the demiplanes domains began overlapping those of Oerth, in the phenomena known as “The Fading Lands.” Originally of good alignment, this fighter/necromancer was a zealous vampire hunter and destroyed more than one in his many adventures throughout the demiplane with his ally, Jethro. However, he was soon corrupted by the demiplanes’ influence and became like those he sought to destroy. While not a true vampire, he has many of their abilities and a few of their weaknesses. Now evil to the core, he was easily recruited by the Necromancers of Skahlehn.
Mandraka is something of an assassin for his cabal, his vampiric abilities making him perfectly suited for the task. He often accompanies Pizentios, obtaining what the experimenter needs for his experiments while hoping that in return Pizentios can restore him to his fully human state. For this reason, Mandraka will do almost anything to save Pizentios, despite his alignment; Pizentios is his best hope. Mandraka rarely speaks to the other members of the Necromancers of Skahlehn, though it is certain he loathes the vampires Abi-Dalzim and Strahd von Zarovich.
