The Scourge of the Underdark first met Darius Carman in the county of Haranshire. Carman was the mayor of the town of Milbourne. His daughter Jelenneth had gone missing after a session with her mage-teacher Tauster. He beseeched the members of what would be the Scourge to find his daughter and return her to him safely. Little did the heroes know of the adventure upon which they were embarking!
When the Scourge discovered the plot of the aboleth, they returned to Carman to let him know of their findings. He seemed somewhat disinterested, though still longed for the return of his daughter. Something in the man’s voice led the suspicious Tanamier to detect for evil upon the man. The response Tanamier got was so powerful as to be debilitating. The wise half-elf left and the heroes performed some divinations. They realized the real Darius Carman was either dead or trapped in some sort of hellish plane.
The being masquerading as Carman now is guessed to be some sort of demonic creature, though it cannot be verified. Of particular note was the disappearance of “Carman” after Brother Griften accidentally unlocked one of the chains binding the Dark God. It seems that on that very day, the cry of “Freedom!” was heard even by the surface dwellers in Haranshire, but especially by “Carman“. It is said he left that very night, and the heroes never saw him again.
He remains a mysterious figure to this day…
